Chronicle of the Festival 2003

June 28-29, 2003

The Moscow festival “Retro-Style” is the most vivid story about now a car turned from a curious thing to the barest necessity. The whole XX century (reflected in its main creation – the car) passed in front of guests and spectators of the festival.

On June 28 a procession of eight cars drove on the historical center of the city. Their sight in the streets of the modern Moscow was as strange as if late Stone Age people appeared in the Tverskoy Bulvar. Following cars took part in the race:

Mercedes-Benz 300S (1954 year of manufacture, cabriolet), BUICK 6-575 (1932 year of manufacture, limousine), Mercedes-Benz 170 (1938 year of manufacture, cabriolet), Ford V8 (1938 year of manufacture, roadster), ЗС 110 (1950 year of manufacture, cabriolet), ПМГ-1 (1936 year of manufacture, fire-engine), Moskvich 422, (1950 year of manufacture, (wooden body), Opel Admiral (1938 year of manufacture, cabriolet). The veterans of the roads defile was headed by “ЗС 110”, driven by the Mayor of Moscow Yuri Michailovich Luzhkov.

The rally started at 18.00 by Poklonnaya Gora and proceeded on the historical center of the city. All participating cars sustained the route which was rather difficult taking into account their age, and at 20.00 they came with their full complement to the finish of the rally – the North exit of the sports area “Luzhniki”.

On the second day the festival was held in the area between sports area “Luzhniki” and the embankment of Moskva-river. At noon forty participating cars took their places on the ground where they could be observed by numerous guests of “Retro-Style”. All day long musicians, alternating one with another, appeared on stage: “STEAM ENGINE Gangster-jazz & neo-swing band” set the pitch, then the group “HULA HOOP” conducted “TARANTINO PARTY”, and finally there was a performance of the group SIGAR HALL. Guests had to choose winners nine of forty participants in following nominations:
